Perugina And Baci Story
Perugina the parent company of Baci is based in Perugia, Italy. The company was founded in 1907, by Giovanni Buitoni
the young heir to Perugina and Luisa Spagnoli a known confectioner in her own right.
In the historic and ancient Umbrian hill town of Perugia in central Italy. Perugina would go on to become one the most famous confectioners in Italy.
The company was introduced to the US market, at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York and opened up their first US store on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
In 1955 after the war, Perugina decides to go global and starts producing chocolate for the masses. Since then they have become famous for their chocolate all over the world.
The company produces a number of products, including chocolate bars, hard candy, nougat and biscotti.
They are famous for their Perugina and Baci chocolate Easter eggs wrapped in a colorful aluminum wrap. However,
their most famous product is “Baci” chocolate “kisses” (in Italian Baci means kiss).
Each Baci is filled with hazelnut and wrapped in a multilingual (Italian - English – French – German – Spanish - Portuguese) love note.
Baci was introduced in 1922. According to Rumor the Baci shape was created by throwing a ball of chocolate against a wall.
That gave it the flat bottom. In 2006 they would introduce their Liquor center dark chocolate covered cherry.
Today Perugina is a division of Nestle Corporation.
