In 1870, chocolate an enticing sweet was a delicacy, often purchased only by the wealthy. Chocolate was also a well-known medicine. In fact, Charles Delacre, a local pharmacist often prescribed chocolate to fortify or restore health. People loved this tasty temptation so much that Delacre opened up a chocolate store next to his pharmacy. The chocolate soon became so popular that by 1873, Delacre had transferred his factory to a larger building and registered trademarks for his products.

Although Charles Delacre diversified his business, his first love and most famous product was his chocolate. After opening his factory in Vilvoorde, Belgium, Delacre decided to add more variety by marketing biscuits. These delicacies were a huge success! and there timeless traditional heritage still lives on today, in the creation of every biscuit. By 1906, Charles Delacre retired and his son Pierre continued the Delacre heritage, of age-old recipes and first-class natural ingredients.
